I made this today for the summer/fall equinox. The equinox happens twice a year and it is when there are equal amounts day and night. I like to think about the sun and moon’s rotations around the earth, the light they spread, and their effects on our natural environments. I made this necklace in the shape of a half sun with sun rays radiating from the center. The surfaces are hammered so they glitter. The leaves of the philodendron monstera were the inspiration for this organic ring. I studied the swoops and holes of the leaves of one in my studio. I made this ring with two layers of silver including cut outs. This ring slightly tapers in the back for comfort. I’m excited to share these new works made of Mendocino County, California jade. I carved them from a larger rock that was found in the mountains in the eastern part of the county. The jade is very beautiful and has an organic pattern of pale green and white with black speckles. It is nice quality jade so I was able to slice a very thin and when held up to a light it is translucent. These first three pairs of earrings from this rock are available in Mendocino at the Mendocino Jewelry Studio. I am working on more that I will be offering on my website in addition to necklaces. 🌱
