Fremont Peak Pendant

Fremont Peak! This is the 3rd highest peak in Wyoming and stands out from the skyline for its distinct rounded shape and pure mass. My husband and I climbed this peak a few years ago and it’s no small feat; by the time you near the top it’s basically an enormous pile of rocks that you are using both hands and feet to reach. Before I ever climbed this peak I would look at it from town and assume that there would be a fairly wide ridge at the top but found that it’s very thin and the backside drops straight down a thousand feet or so to a glacier. At the top you are surrounded by a 360 degree view that includes all of the other super jagged pure granite Wind River Range peaks and the view stretches all the way to the Grand Teton in Jackson. What an amazing experience.

I designed this medallion to illustrate Fremont Peak’s jagged silhouette and when I was sawing out the ridges that make up its face I was reminded of lightning and our experience of an insanely close and loud lightning storm the night after climbing the peak. We were camping at its base in Indian Basin and each thunder and lightning clap echoed around in the peaks…boom-boom-boom-boom-boom. So I decided to further the lightning shapes. On the back on the pendant is Fremont Peak’s outline with a summit marker, the elevation of the peak and the state where it can be found: “Wyoming”.
