Mendocino Jade Earrings – Heart Leaf

Heart or Leaf? I carved this pair of earrings inspired by my philodendron plant’s leaves but then noticed they also look like hearts. They are translucent, swirled green jade that was found in Mendocino County, California. The jade is a mix of dark and medium green and has white veins and spots of black. I started with the rough jade stone and then cut and polished it in my studio; I like to make it thin so that it shows off the translucency of the jade. I custom made a silver rivet to attach the drops to hammered flourishes of silver.
